Habitat for Humanity

Founded in 1976 Habitat for Humanity has the aim of tackling poverty housing on a global scale. The organsation now works  in over  90 countries around the world and have built 300,000 homes in partnership with people in need of safe, decent  housing.

Poor housing has a devastating effect on all aspects of people’s lives: it affects people's health and wellbeing, their children's education, their employment prospects.

Habitat for Humanity’s goal is to build in partnership with those in need to help eliminate poverty housing all over the world.

Each year Habitat for Humanity run a volunteer programme where for 2 weeks international volunteers assist in the building of homes alongside the homepartner families who will eventually live there. This ensures that the new home is not a ‘hand out’ but a ‘hand up’ - the family pays for their new home through a low cost, non profit mortgage that recycles back into the community and helps build more homes.
